Having owned, and designed for a woman's shoe factory in London, he had become more interested in art and less in the shoe business. He attended the Camden Art Centre, where he divided his time between painting, drawing and etching. Having moved to Oxford in 1979, by chance found a drawing class for sculpture students, and was persuaded to 'Have a Go'. He did, his first piece sold and thus began a new career. He works mainly in wax towards finished sculptures in Bronze. His early pieces were figurative, but having been commissioned to sculpt 2 6 feet Boxing Hares, he has become known for sculpting these fascinating creatures, and noted that over 650 hares in varying dimensions have been sold. His pieces often have derived from myths, and Bulls, Goats, Horses and Owls, have all been a source of inspiration.
Stanley has shown in many Galleries in the UK and in Paris and has had Sculpture exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
As well as selling regularly to clients in Britain his work has been shipped to Spain, USA, Canada and Australia.
